A Barred owl has been visiting my neighbors feeder for four of the last
five evenings, sometimes as early as 4:00 and sometimes staying for over an
hour.  It once landed directly on the feeder, as the cardinals, juncos,
etc. just pretty much kept on feeding.  Three squirrels teased him a bit,
at one time running half way out  the branch on which he was perched.

     I've attached some photos, some of the best I've ever gotten of a

I'm wondering if anyone has an opinion about this owl and its somewhat odd
behavior.  We have been here for 35 years, and the place is truly infested
with Barred owls, but none have ever landed on the feeder, at least hot
when we were around.  I personally think it's a young bird, recently sent
packing by his parents, and just learning to  get by on his own.  Any
opinions welcome.

     We hear owls in the yard every day, sometimes five or six times a day,
and a lot at night.  Just tonight I had two calling right above my head.  I
chatted with them for a while, and one even flew out over my head and back
in (the spruce).

    Other photos include the Ivory gull from Ill. and the smooth billed Ani
from Florida (number 700 and 701, but whose counting?)
