My full day turned into a 1/2 day, but I decided to head up there anyway. And
Success with the Bonapartes! I was scanning from the dam parking lot.
Thankfully most of the Bonies were actually in Butler! There was nothing on
The lake waterfowl wise. All the ducks must be at Alum creek! 209 for the
Big year. I went exploring the banding station woods well. Brown Creeper. Ha!
Mythical species…..! I did have the usual late fall birds. Winter wren is always
Nice. My highlight being loads of Hermit Thrushes. One was even singing!
I had 8. A friend and fellow birder also had a lot today in butler also. They
Must have moved in in force recently?

I went exploring Preble county Hueston woods next. No luck with the Preble
Red Crossbills. Nothing on the lake. Gull numbers were better from the dam!
I was going to explore the dredge area at the north end of the lake, but
Encountered a hunter. I left! I did have Ruby crowned Kinglet and YB Sapsucker
Though before I left. I want to bird that dredge area. Hopefully no hunters
My next time up there.

No flyover Sandhill Cranes….. we had a flock at Fernald at dusk on Wed. Did
They cross over into Butler?? Of course not! 2 Shorties hunting at dusk there.
Wed.

Monday I think I will chase the crossbills again at Elk Creek. December bird!
And the Dunlin at east fork - if it sticks. Never occurred to me Dunlin would be
Rare now. They winter in NJ. I love learning the differences!

Good birding all.
