I volunteer taught a geology field trip for West Muskingum High School
yesterday, 4/8. Our destinations were Flint Ridge State Memorial and Black
Hand Gorge.

A Louisiana waterthrush was singing incessantly at Flint Ridge, on the
quarry trail. This is interesting because there is none of the standard
flowing ravine habitat here, although there is plenty of water in the pits.
I pointed out to some young men that this bird has just arrived from
Central America, and they were briefly impressed.

I have not yet witnessed the return of Louisiana waterthrush to our farm,
six miles east of that location on the same upland, but across the county
line in Muskingum County. They arrive here most years the second week of
April.
