I made a few quick stops along the southern shore of Hoover Reservoir,
dodging squalls this afternoon. There was a fair bit of activity of
waterbird migrants and raptors, with less among certain early temperate
landbird migrants. Stops at Maxtown launch, County Line bridge, Walnut St
ramp, and Hoover Dam produced the following highlights:

Scaup - still some small flocks around both Maxtown & Walnut St ramps
Mergansers - flock of Red-breasted at many spots, including flyover flocks
headed north
loons - no big numbers here, with only 4 off Maxtown and 2 off the dam
Grebes - small #s of Horned at several stops, and 1 Pied-bill at the dam
cormorants - moving in numbers, with flocks at many stops; Walnut St. had a
flock of 80
Vultures - small numbers of Turkey Vultures at several stops were augmented
by 6 Black Vultures east of the Maxtown Ramp
BaldEagle - 1 third-year was flying south along the shore at Walnut St.
ramp, and picked up a noisy escort from an adult Red-shouldered Hawk
Osprey - 1 was flying north over the dam
Red-tailed Hawks - a pair appear to be building a nest on the west side of
field next to the spillway below the dam
E.Phoebes - 2 were at the Maxtown ramp, and another 2 were along the
spillway below the dam
Tree Swallows - modest flocks were at every stop, foraging out over the
reservoir
Kinglets - a small cluster of 3 Golden-crowns was in the woodlot at Maxtown
ramp
Warblers - only Yellow-rumps, but they were at all stops and in good plumage
Sparrows - Songs Sparrows were on territories at every stop; the only
migrant was a Junco at the dam.
