I've been receiving tons of emails asking about the powerplant at East 72nd pumping Warmwater. I do not know if or when they plan to shut down operations. All I know is plenty of warm water is being pumped out and a large section of water is open, with 12,000 ring bills (low estimate) and 8500 Herring and more. Jerry Talkington just called to say he has Glaucous, Thayer's, Iceland and more. Lesser and Great Black-backs present plus a few Bonaparte's. There are surely rarities there. It's truly a spectacle and one that CLE birders have seen for years when the lake freezes over and the hot waters bring birds close to shore. Brilliant looks at white-winged gulls.
