The shorebird migration continues unabated at Cowan Lake's Lotus Cove, but
there were only the usual suspects today. Yesterday's rain raised the level
of the lake about two inches, reducing the amount of exposed mud in Lotus
Cove by about 40%. Species and numbers:
6 Great Blue Heron
4 Great Egret
1 Greater Yellowlegs
11 Lesser Yellowlegs
4 Solitary Sandpiper
3 Spotted Sandpiper
21 Least Sandpiper
1 Killdeer
At home, just north of Wilmington, we posted a new course record: seven
Rose-breasted Grosbeaks; five males and two females.
Cheers,
Bob
