I've had my ornithology labs out to Lake Snowden in Athens County this morning and yesterday. Both days we saw at least three Red-necked Grebes, as well as the expected Pied-billed and Horned Grebes. Waterfowl have almost all moved on from this part of Ohio, besides the resident Canadas and mallards we saw only a pair of Wood Ducks and three Bufflehead. Saw one Common Loon. Brown Thrashers were singing well yesterday, cold weather pretty much shut them up today.

"...ecologists should speak out more strongly against further
taming and simplification of Earth's ecosystems which, if
carefully tended, might yet produce intelligent life."
