Hi: I was out about 9:30am this morning to look for the scoters that
had been reported. I parked by the railroad tracks on Willow Rd.
south of Wright Marsh. The first pair of surf scoters was right there
in the narrow canal in front of me to the north. I stood beside my
car and scoped them from there. Can't beat that! I then walked NE (to
the left) along the tracks as has been suggested to get a good view
of the large Wright Marsh pond. There I found two more pairs of surf
scoters on the big pond mixed in with lots of other ducks. Thus,
there were a total of SIX SURF SCOTERS (three pairs) this morning! I
also went to the west side of Schwartzwalder Rd. in the Funk area
where I had excellent views of the MALE BLACK SCOTER in good light.
It was diving a lot among other ducks, but finally paused to allow
full views. A two-scoter day!! In all I had 18 species of waterfowl
for the morning, which I consider fantastic for Ohio. Randy Rowe
