Larry Jeanblanc emailed me photos of a flock of 16 American Avocets, and 6 Greater Yellowlegs at the Buck Creek State Park beach -Clark County just NE of Springfield.
I found them still there, hunkered down along the shore from the strong winds at about 1:35 pm.
The main beach lots are open til dusk, the birds were straight ahead from the entrance when you drive in. So to the right of the bath house building and standing right at the water’s edge.
A couple windsurfers were enjoying the gale more than the birds.
