Finally appearing on Lorain Harbor's inner breakwall was a chunky Purple Sandpiper late this morning.  I picked up on the bird flying in while scanning the breakwalls, and it hung out on the east breakwall near the channel's mouth for 10 minutes or so.  It dissappeared just as quickly, and I could not relocate afterwards.  My guess is that Lorain's extensive breakwalls host Purple Sandpipers regularly, but they rarely venture to the inner harbor.

There are still a lot of Ring-billed Gulls and mergansers here - easily 20,000 of each.  I searched the Black River and harbor throughly turning up a single first-yr Glaucous Gull and two ad. Lesser Black-backed Gulls

Earlier in the a.m., a single White-winged Scoter passed the homefront in Sheffield Lake.

Good birding -
