Troy Shively just called with what he thinks is a first Shelby record of
blue grosbeak, a male singing at a gravel pit (Delorme B/C-5/6). From
the village of Newbern go south on Hardin-Wapakoneta until it tees at
Stangel Rd [Stangel is not named in the atlas, but it is signed]. Turn
right and follow Stangel a bit more than a mile, part of the way along
the gravel pit. No trespassing at the pit itself, but there is a parking
area where Stangel ends, and the bird's singing right there. ....or
just go check out your local gravel pits, as it seems Cincinnati
observers are right that they're this species' favored habitat!
