It is impossible to describe the number of birds that arrived on the Cleveland lakefront last night. I led a bus trip from Wendy park to headlands and back to Cleveland Lakefront Nature Preserve.
At Wendy Park, 980 White-throated Sparrows plus scores upon scores of Field, Chipping, Fox, White-crowned, Lincoln’s, Vesper, Swamp and Song. Hundreds upon hundreds of kinglets all along the shore. CLNP was loaded and we had both Grasshopper and LeConte’s, the LeConte’s in the tall grass field where all the trails converge. Plus 4 Orange-crowned Warblers at CLNP and hundreds upon hundreds of Sparrows and juncos. Headlands was loaded as well, plus a flyby Franklin’s Gull and Long-tailed Duck. Erie Street Cemetery held an immense number of Sparrows plus three woodcocks, hordes of kinglets, creepers, and many Winter Wrens and Hermit Thrushes. Have never seen these immense numbers before on the OH lakefront - hopefully many were out to witness it.
