Greetings Ohio Birders!
I hope you have all enjoyed this mild Ohio winter! We’ve had lots of great sightings in Ohio this season, and I’m thrilled that so many of us were able to get good looks at the Long-eared Owl in Waynesville!

February 29th marks the end of the winter season in terms of the way we keep track of bird records; December 1 through the end of February. Please consider submitting your observations of Ohio birds to The Ohio Cardinal. Each issue reports the species account for the state, and relies heavily on field observations from birders. Even if you have reported sightings to the listserv, please provide a list of your most important records to ensure that they are cited in the journal. A convenient form for submitting seasonal observations and additional information is available at: http://www.ohiobirds.org/publications/cardinal/aboutcardinal.php. Please send your winter 2011 field observations to me by March 25th. You can send your report to either my e-mail or by postal mail to the Avian Research and Education Institute at the following address:

If you have submitted your sightings to ebird, then you do not need to send me anything. We are able to access those sightings, and will include them in the Cardinal.

The Fall/Winter 09/10 double issue is done and should be in your mailbox any day now. Thank you for doing such a great job Andy Jones!

I do regret to inform you that the Summer 2010 issue has been delayed due to a longer than normal review of sightings. I had hoped to have it to the printers by now, but am now looking at a distribution date in March. Fall 2010 is also almost complete and should also be ready in March/April. We are also currently working on both the Winter 2010/2011 Spring 2011 issues and will have them completed soon. We are still on track to meet our goal of getting caught up in 2012 - so please be patient with us as we continue to work very hard.

Don't forget to send your photographs to Dave Russell ([log in to unmask]) and please consider writing up an article! We publish both original research and observations, so send us your stories!

Thanks and happy birding!

Jill
