We have a very up-close and visible deer population in Avon Lake, and over the past week or so we have watched a pair of Phoebes interact with the deer. It reminded me of watching a National Geographic "special" from the African veld.
The Phoebes would fly in and dart around the deer, especially around their legs, and hover over their backs and around their faces, picking-off the flies that are making life difficult for the deer.
The deer don't seem to be very upset by this close interaction, and appear to return to that location for more "cleanings", and the Phoebes have a sort of "meals-on-wheels" brought to them.
An interesting symbiosis, anyone else observed this kind of  behaviour ?
