The American Ornithologist Union better do its homework and extend its "culturally sensitive" nomenclature" by requesting that we birders ought to be searching for the possibly extinct "Inuit Curlew."   Little does the AOU know that  Eskimo Curlew is not politically correct, as well.  The name "Eskimo" ("eaters of raw meat" in the Algonquian language ) is an Algonquian insult aimed at their northern neighbors the Inuit People. So, ancient aboriginal feuds continue to roll off the tongues of ornithologists and birders alike, 'tis a pity.

Saying "old squaw" is as offensive as saying "the old lady" with the beautiful voice calling across the water.  I can handle it.

"A piece of information to newcomers in birding about my use of two bird names; to most
seasoned birders like myself this duck was known in North America by the
picturesque name of "OLDSQUAW" until the year 2000. That year The American
Ornithologists Union changed it to Long-tailed Duck to be supposedly politically
correct."
