I stopped briefly at Willow Point, 12:30-1:30 today. As reported earlier,
water was being pumped into the south pond by the headquarters area. Just as
I was walking back on the dike (which has just been mowed, making walking
easier) one of the Wildlife men arrived and turned off the pump. I told him how
scarce shorebird habitat was in Ohio and that we birders hoped he would not
be raising the level of the north pond. He told me that they had no
intention of pumping into the north pond (where the majority of shorebirds were
before any pumping began) but that they might add more water to the south pond.

Bird numbers seemed lower than my visit Wednesday (before the pumping
began), but I had been there later in the day. Willow Point is still a great place
for shorebirds. Species seen: Least, Semipalm, Stilt, and Pectoral
Sandpipers, killdeer and a semipalm plover. Dowitchers and Yellowlegs (only saw
lesser).
