This is the Ohio Rare Bird Report for June 22, 2007.
Compiler: Paul Gardner. Email: [log in to unmask]

Yellow-crowned Night-Heron: Bill Whan reports the two nests at Preston Road,
Columbus, have produced young.

Mississippi Kite: The Hocking County kite first reported on June 8 was
independently rediscovered by Rick Perkins on the 18th at the Brass Ring
Country Club golf course in Logan. Bill Whan and Troy Shively successfully
chased it on the 21st, the latter getting photos.

King Rail: Sandy Brown photographed one at a marshy area west of the boat
ramp at Turkeyfoot Lake State Park, Summit County, on the 17th.

Upland Sandpiper: Craig Holt passed along information that "uppies" are
present and presumably breeding at sites in Ashtabula, Franklin and Harrison
Counties. Rick Counts reported one at or near the Longbrake Wetlands, Hardin
County on the 21st.

Eurasian Collared-Dove: On the 19th Cindy Ploch, a member of the Darke
County Birders, spotted a Eurasian collared dove in Fort Jefferson, Darke
County. Regina Schieltz confirmed a second bird the same day. The birds seem
reliably present at the intersection of Rt. 121 and Weaver Station-Fort
Jefferson Rd. The family on the southeastern corner of the intersection is
keeping a logbook for birders to sign.

Bell's Vireo: There were multiple sightings of the birds at Homestead Park
/Heritage Trail in Hilliard on the 17th and 18th. A great find for central
Ohio in any other year, Rob Thorn's discovery of one at Windward Farm
Parkland, Columbus, on the 19th was practically carrying coals to Newcastle
in this bountiful season.
