I just returned from cleaning nest boxes at Dustin Road (Area L) at the Hoover Nature Preserve in Delaware County [north side of bridge into Galena]. There was a nice selection of shorebirds there this morning and I will do a full posting later, but the highlight was when 2 Marbled Godwits flew in and landed at the mudflat edge and began feeding in the water. They came in about 11:15 AM and were still present when I left. If they leave this site I would look for them at either the mudflats at the end of the Area M boardwalk or in the vicinity of the Pelican Island mudflats [ from the boardwalk that location is around the corner south of the small island where the Osprey nested. The latter area requires a long walk from the Eastshore Yacht Club [off Sunbury Road near Harlem Road] north along the shore. The Pelican Island location is where we had the 9 godwits, both Hudsonian and Marbled at the same time in 2005. The Pelican Island mudflats were becoming extensive when I was th
ere a few days ago and had a variety of shorebirds. It is the area that Jim McCormac feature on his blog back in 2005.

No guarantee that the godwits will remain cooperative but the ones present in 2005 hung around for us birders.
