Hello Fellow Birders,

I am fairly new to the listserve. I've watched some interesting feeding
behaviors lately and wondered if they are normal....

For the last few days, I have watched a male American goldfinch slide down
the stem of my hummingbird feeder hanger. Once low enough, he actually
dunks his head in the sugar water solution and drinks! I watched him
tonight take 3 successive drinks. It is the funniest sight! Maybe he
needs a drink after all the thistle he eats!

I have 2 upside down goldfinch feeders and typically have 10 to 15
goldfinches feeding daily. Not to be outdone, I have a male house finch who
is eating, or trying to, at the goldfinch thistle feeders.

When the hummingbird feeder is available, I have 2 hummingbirds coming to
the feeder. One perches on it. They don't look like Ruby-throated or
Rufous to me. Are there other kinds in the area?

Any help is welcome. Thanks! Becky
