Go for it, Mary.

I have used various micro-recorders for many years. Most recently I'm using
the tiny Olympus digital voice recorder WS-100. I paid about $100.00 a
couple years ago. I'm really surprised by the quality of sounds I record
simply by holding the recorder in the air and using the internal microphone.

There are many high-tech choices out there and others have reviewed them in
Ohio Birds forum. Have a look there for more choices.
