Hello, Andrew--
        I believe there was a Columbus Dispatch photo essay a couple days ago
of photographers photographing great horned owls here in town at the
Green Lawn Cemetery; if no one has scared them away, they should still
be visible now...just look for the human crowd and the big lenses.
Barred owls are more numerous here; when they are calling, they can
fairly easily be heard in metro parks and wilder settings in ravines,
etc.; unfortunately, kids with BB guns may remove the easy targets.  I'm
not talking about you, but for some unfathomable reason many people seem
to crave photographing owls, even though there are innumerable great
photos free to look at and copy on the internet and in books, plus of
course one can actually see them without the intervention of camera
lenses. I guess some folks treasure personal trophies, but sometimes
owls are harassed in procuring them.......
