Greetings from the Great Black Swamp,

Our star wader, the Glossy Ibis, seems to have departed the Thomas Wetlands sometime last weekend, but he has been replaced by an adult Little Blue Heron, who seems to be enjoying the company of a pair of Great Egrets at a private sanctuary near us. This area is NOT open to the public, so I am not at liberty to divulge its location, but this is the second Little Blue to appear at this location, the last being an immature bird found in July of 2005.

Another bird of note was a record early Mourning Warbler found by Micki on our property yesterday. It hung around the dense undergrowth most of the morning, but when she mowed the lawn later in the morning, it obviously took offense at the noise and departed. Her previous earliest Mournings were each found on May 11.

Bird long and prosper,
Doug & Micki Dunakin
Antwerp, O.
