We made the hour & a half drive down to the Arc of Appalachia preserves along Rocky Fork Gorge in Hillsboro County and were rewarded with a burst of early Neotropical migrants (similar to what Bruce Simpson has found at Lake Hope) as well as some spectacular Spring wildflower displays. We hiked both the Barrett's Rim Trail and the Valley of the Ancients Trail, and had

Flycatchers - still only E.Phoebes here, but quite a few of them
Vireos - singing Blue-headed and Red-eyed at several areas
Swallows - Rough-wings were abundant in the Gorge, and Tree and Barns were in the upland fields
Gnatcatchers - quite a few of them, but no nest-building yet
Thrushes - had 2 singing Wood Thrushes at Barrett's Rim
Mimids - had singing Brown Thrasher & Catbirds along the main road
Warblers - 10 species, with the riparian Parulas, Yellow-throateds, and Louisiana Waterthrushes bordering on abundant. Also had Blue-winged, Nashville, Prairie (2), Yellow-rumped (8), Black-thr.Green, Ovenbird, and Common Yellowthroats
Tanagers - 3 different singing Scarlet Tanagers at Barrett's Rim were a treat
Grosbeaks - 1 singing Rose-br.Grosbeak
Sparrows - nothing other than the expected Towhees-Chippings-Fields-Songs, other than a few small flocks of White-throateds
