The Lowellville--Struthers section of the Mahoning River continues to attract a surprisingly good variety of waterbirds for mid-winter.  Today I saw 8 ring-necked ducks, 1 greater scaup, 1 lesser scaup, 1 bufflehead, 12 c. goldeneyes, 17 hooded mergansers, 1 ruddy duck, and 2 pied-billed grebes.  Access to the river is limited; it would be very interesting to float down the river from around Warren all the way to the PA line right now.  There are certainly many more birds along the river corridor that can't be viewed from dry land easily.  Later, Craig
