Good numbers of Temperate migrants were on display at this MetroPark north
of Columbus today. I birded along the Coyote Run Trail first, than moved
over to the River Bluff area, and had a steady stream of migrants.
Included in the list were:
Turkey Vultures - River Bluff had at least 16 soaring on the updrafts of
the high banks there.
Woodpeckers - good #s of 'residents', with a big bump in Red-bellied
woodpecker numbers
Kinglets - 2-3 Ruby-crowns at each spot, plus single Golden-crowns
Thrushes - 15 E.Bluebirds likely included some recent arrivals from the
north. Also, a late Swainson's Thrush was calling from the junction of the
Coyote Run and Dripping Rock Trails
Warblers - Yellow-rumps dominant, with 25+, but also had 2 Orange-crowns (1
at each site), Black-thr.Green, and Palm Warblers
Sparrows - good day, with lots of Field Sparrows, plus some White-throats,
Songs, 1 Lincolns, and 1 Swamp, as wll as a scattering of E.Towhees
Blackbirds - big flock of 300+ Grackles near the Day Camp pond; also had
Redwings and Cowbirds at different locations along the Coyote Run Trail.
