I heard my first Virginia Rail today at Mary Virginia Crites-Hannan Park in
Circleville. I was checking bluebird boxes when I heard the familiar
"kiddick-kiddick-kiddick" call coming from the cattails in the wetland.

Not surprising, the bluebirds are behind schedule as I look back over
statistics of previous years. This time last year, I had 4 eggs in one of
the nests. Today I had one completed nest ready to go but no other nests
at all - just a few strands of grass in a couple of other boxes. I
actually have been taking dried mealworms out to the park during the really
cold days of the past couple weeks. The bluebirds found them quickly.

Looks like we'll have a warm-up starting tomorrow, thank goodness.
