I went this late afternoon mainly wanting to see what the controlled burn there
Was doing to the birds. It will be interesting to see what uses the newly burned
Fields. I had 17 Snipe. But most were in flight. Only one on the ground feeding.
The loss of cover for them may mean they move more. A harrier spooked a group
A couple times. Etc. I never did find the Pipits that were reported feeding in
The burned areas.
The 17 is a new high count for me. But not by much. Was 16! Lodge Pond when
The water is lower is still my favorite spot for Snipe.
Got 1/2 days to bird the coming week. Here’s hoping it gets warmer! I was debating
Whether to hit Fernald after Luke’s post on the Snipe. Too windy….. wind and I
Don’t agree…..
Good birding all.
