Ohio Birders,

The immature female Rufous Hummingbird that I banded near Medina yesterday
is still present today (Dec 22), though she has switched her attentions to
a second feeder on the side of the house away from the one at the back. The
homeowner indicates that the bird is nervous (always has been, since
arriving in September), and will leave the feeders if there's too much
motion or talking. There's truck traffic along the road that can startle
the hummingbird (and all the other birds) too. A Sharp-shinned Hawk in the
area doesn't help them calm down either. Patience.

In case I didn't mention it before, she has molted all her tail feathers
and has essentially an adult female tail - meaning that her second rectrix
(r2) shows noticeable notching and emargination that is diagnostic for the
species. Of course, you'd have to see her spread her tail...

I am happy to provide directions to the site to anyone interested. Only 3
takers yesterday...
