The Columbus Audubon field trip to the 'urban Scioto' is still on for tomorrow, but the meeting place has changed. Since the MetroParks are running their WinterHike series at Scioto-Whittier, they've asked us to move our meeting place. We're now meeting at the Columbus Fire Department lot on the west side of the Greenlawn Ave bridge (next to the Greenlawn dam). We'll hike the bikepath south from there, paying special attention to open areas in the river here which usually hold big flocks of waterbirds. Afterwards we'll visit the Greenlawn cemetery to look for crossbills and other winter finches. Then, for those still not sated (or frostbitten), we'll head up to Griggs dam, which should also have swarms of waterfowl in the open water below that dam. Trip starts at 9 AM, so dress warmly; warm headgear and handgear will be crucial!

On a different note, the MetroParks have put up signs about 'Not leaving Valuables in your car.' This applies for anywhere near downtown, including our stops tomorrow. I found this out firsthand just 3 days ago, when my car was broken into while parked just 2 blocks from the downtown police station. Car burglaries are up, so be alert and don't leave visible valuables in your car.

Rob
