For many years the Ross-Pickaway County Line Road in south-central Ohio
was a place to go for birders to see Short-eared Owls, Rough-legged
Hawks, Northern Harriers and other raptors. But it seems to have fallen
by the wayside in recent years except for the Christmas Bird Count that
covers that area. On Saturday(January 4)I visited that area. Between 5:10
and 5:35 P.M. I watched two Short-eared Owls put on quite a display. They
were near the intersection of Kingston-Adelphi Rd.(the actual County Line
Road)and Jackson Road. I also saw a Northern Harrier cruising over the
fields.
Sincerely,
Jim Fry
Hocking County
