It's that gift-giving season.  Some birders will have been good enough all year, or will have fooled Santa well enough, to receive high-quality binoculars or telescopes as holiday gifts.  If you're one of the fortunate ones, your first thoughts probably will be about going out and using the new optics by aiming them at some fabulous birds.  But after that, here's something else to consider.  

What are you going to do with your old optics?  If they were just worthless, the question is moot.  But if you're upgrading from good to better, if your old binoculars or telescope are in decent shape, they could have a second life and they could do a lot of good.  More information is here:
