Hi all

A fair number of birders were birding the Mosquito Lake area in search of the Snowy Owl. As of this afternoon, it has not been relocated. This does not mean it's not in the area, however. There are an abundance of areas where it can be sitting out of sight so continued searches is recommended.

Other birds of note from today include:

NORTHERN SHRIKE - I had one flyby in front of me along Gardner Barcley Road just west of Hoagland Blackstub Road. It teed up in top of the tree line briefly before disappearing never to be relocated again. Larry Richardson found a second Northern Shrike to the west within Grand River Wildlife Area. From Rt. 88 head south on Hoffman Norton Road for 1.5 miles to a cemetery and it was teed up in top of a pine.

ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK - I've heard reports of both light and dark morphs anywhere between Mahan-Denman and Gardner Barclay Roads over the past couple days.

BLACK SCOTER - The count off the Mosquito Lake causeway (Route 88) has increased from 6 to 7 since yesterday. They are viewable to the south of the road. Two more Black Scoters were off the east end of Mahan-Denman Road up in the wildlife area - from the water, scope south towards the large raft of Hooded Mergansers. Also present were a few Common Loons and an assortment of waterfowl.

WHITE-WINGED SCOTER - One individual continues to hang out with the seven Black Scoters off the Mosquito Lake causeway.

Of course, there are plenty of other waterfowl to scan through. I was really surprised by the number of Hooded Mergansers on Mosquito Lake! The highest count on eBird for a locale in Ohio is 521 (Hoover Reservoir). If you combine the raft numbers between the wildlife area and further south at the causeway, they easily surpass this number. Quite impressive! If you find time, also scope out the several thousand Bonaparte's Gulls - Little Gull and other rarities hves been seen here before.

Best,
