212. Barring a rarity that I can chase over the weekend….. ! I actually
Have CBCs both days! I do these big years to learn areas. And I learned
Butler County a lot better than I knew it before! Gilmore metro park I have
Always liked. But other good migration spots were a couple of roads in
Hueston Woods state park. Which had lower trees. I prefer more open
Areas in migration. Than extensive woods. Gulls and terns were basically
Non existent. Sad. Furfield dog park does get gulls roosting - at least it
Did, I didn’t have much success there this year. I like that spot on the
Great Miami in the NE of Butler. I chased the Ross goose there. I just ran
Out of time this year to explore it more. Ditto for the Butler section of
Hueston Woods. Didn’t help that was basically over an hour away! Shorebirds -
Were good! And then Ellis was developed…… I am still sick over that. Shorebirds
Don’t have enough feeding areas as it stands. Then we lost a great one!
All for more warehouses……

I missed a lot that I chased. Like Vesper Sparrow. Etc. And I was away a lot.
Missed the whistling ducks and Avocets….

I had wanted to explore how the birds use the Great Miami more. That Riverside
Natural area and lower level dam are super! Etc. But I ran out of time. Happens!
That’s something I look forward to next year. And in Hamilton county. Which is
My home county.

I would like to get 100 for the January 100. In SW Ohio. Traveling in Feb. then
Hopefully by mid march odes start. I don’t know timing here. I want to explore
Ohio for botany, odes, butterflies. In 2024. Fun! Of course there’s still county,
State, and monthly listing.

Good birding all! And an early Happy new year birding!
