I got up to the lakefront yesterday and checked Conneaut harbor and Ashtabula.  Results were lousy at both places.  There were more hunter decoys around than real fowl.  Birds included redheads, both scaup, buffleheads, all 3 mergansers, common loon, double-crested cormorant, and 26 Am. coots.  Only small numbers of gulls were present with only 1 a great black-backed.  I did better driving along country roads in the east half of Ashtabula Co. looking for raptors, etc.  I was happy to see a total of 6 Am. kestrels and 3 bald eagles, but only 3 red-tailed hawks.  A gathering of 50 wild turkeys fed in a cornstubble field in Denmark Twp.  On the way home I spotted 1 more Am. kestrel in Hubbard (Trumbull Co.) which made the tally 7 for the day.  Craig Holt, Lowellville
