The ABA mailing list http://birding.aba.org/maillist/BC  has a couple of
entries about Kirtland, including an interesting letter from Kirtland in
1896 to one of the early ornithological societies. It's under the rubric
of "Letter from and Old-time Ornithologist" in the Ohio page of the
"Birding News" feature," and gives some of his observations of birds in
that era---interesting reading.
