It has been years since I have heard a GH owl in the neighborhood, but one is here now...a very welcome visitor.

I live near west campus and have been hearing it off and on since mid October. I finally saw it the night after Thanksgiving, in a cottonwood tree. It has also been hanging out in a big sycamore. It shows up randomly, and I have wondered if it comes from over the farm. I regularly check the cottonwood, and another family keeps an ear out at the sycamore.

Last weekend a couple was walking the neighborhood searching for a cat that didn't come home, and an older schnauzer disappeared last week from a yard literally midway between these two trees. Seems more than a coincidence!
