Sunday Nov 20th : Lorain County

11:00 am at Findley State Park, one adult bald eagle was flying and roosting around the lake at the picnic area peninsula.

12:00 noon at Wellington upland water reservoir: hundreds of Ruddy ducks, pied-billed grebes, and coots were peppered over the entire water reservoir.

                                Medina County:

2:00 pm Friendsville Rd. at the sand and gravel pit: one adult bald eagle was sitting in a large tree; one Cooper’s hawk flew by the road.

Last week one very dark (almost black colored feathers) red tailed hawk was soaring over these gravel pits. At first I thought this hawk was a rough-legged because of the dark color and the hovering, however the top of the tail was red with light color underneath, and the strong winds were causing the hawk to hover.
For hawk watching, these gravel pits are a good place to go. Pull-offs along Friendsville Rd. are easy to access and high above the gravel pits. The gravel pit property is private, but the road is public.
