Checking along the Olentangy river in these two parks (and some neighboring ravines) found migration in Columbus still mostly stuck on temperate species. The weather warmed up quickly from a cold morning, but bird activity was never very intense. highlights included:
Blue-winged teal - a pair of them on Antrum Lake seemed very out-of-place (as this lake is deep and has little fringing reeds).
woodpeckers - large numbers of Downies chasing and drumming at every stop (probably 40+ in 3 hours). This contrasted with only singles of Hairy and sapsucker.
Flycatcher,Swallows - only 1 Phoebe far up Adena ravine. The only swallows were Rough-wings, but they were fairly numerous, in 1s and 2s all along the river.
Creeper,Kinglets - 1 singing Creeper in Antrum, while fair numbers of kinglets (evenly split between Ruby-crowns and Golden-crowns) were at both parks.
Winter Wren - 1 was singing in the far eastern section of Adena ravine, off Overbrook Drive.
Warblers - singing Yellow-throateds and Yellow-rumps at every stop; Antrum had the most with 3 of the former and 6-8 of the latter. A Pine Warbler was singing in the ravine at Whetstone.
Sparrows - singing Chipping at many stops, while White-throated numbers held steady (with 20+ at Antrum and another 12+ at Whetstone). No unusual sparrows around the pocket prairie at Whetstone.....yet.
