On a followup to a report of a spring adult male Yellow-headed Blackbird by Susan Fader of Franklin Square; my wife and I made the short drive, and saw it at about 5:40 this afternoon. To get to the site in northern Columbiana County; from SR45 go east on SR558 to the village of Franklin Square to the parking area for the Beaver Creek Greenway Trail. Park and take the bike trail about 3/4 mile northeast crossing two roads, then passing thru the Rainbow Lakes Wetland Area. There is a bench on the left; presently the best opportunity for seeing the bird is in the marsh opposite the bench! An American Bittern was also seen here by us. If visiting this location this is the northern limit of the Carolina Chickadee, both Carolina and Black-capped can be found here. If the Yellow-headed Blackbird continues to be seen, a viewing update will be provided.
