I didn’t think of that! But the temps were below freezing last night. The field
Area was frozen. The ponds to the SE were still mainly open. I was at Ellis
Yesterday. Or the day before. It’s looking very good habitat wise for birds.
A nice flock of pintail was there. I wanted to see the changes today. Not
Expecting the ice….. oh well. I ended up walking the path around the SE ponds.
That area looks really promising for stuff. Odes, butterflies, and birds. Rubber
Boots and spray will be needed come spring.
I was bushwacking some. Woodcock is needed. Not today! I did pick up Hermit
Thrush and Grackle. I still need Fox Sparrow for butler life! I keep striking out
On that one also.
I didn’t have time to hit Furfield. So I hit IKEA pond instead. Surprise - no herons
On the nests! I wonder if they were just checking the nests out until they
Officially need the nests when the eggs are laid?
Family commitment shortly. I hope to catch up with the ASO trip to St.
Joseph’s - Hamilton county when done. Of course it’s the opposite side of
The county from where I will be!
Good birding all. I've decided the best bird I got in Feb. for the big year was the
Purple Finch. Not an easy bird for me away from feeders.
