I spent this morning scoping Hoover reservoir.  At all stops there were
numbers of common loons, totalling about 80 birds.

The highlight was a single RED-THROATED LOON feeding north of Oxbow Island.
I didn't see it until my third scan through the common loons there, so keep
trying if you miss it at first.

There were also pied-billed grebes at all stops, totaling around 25 birds.
Horned grebes were concentrated at the north end of the reservoir, where I
counted 10.  Other waterfowl included about 200 hooded mergansers, all at
the extreme north end of the reservoir.
