I spent an all-to-brief hour looking through the area along the Scioto River at Marble Cliff. This area is a series of old quarries along the river that are now flooded and offer good backwaters for waterfowl, which were there in abundance today. Highlights included
Pied-billed Grebe - 1
Canada Goose - 50
Wood Duck - 2 pair
Mallard - 30
Black Duck - 4
Lesser Scaup - 22
Greater Scaup - 1-2
Ring-necked Duck - 160+ (this is a good concentration point for them, as Bob Royse has noted in many of his postings)
Redhead - 3
Common Goldeneye - 4
Hooded Merganser - 5
American Coot - 2
Ring-billed Gull - 50+

The nearby quarries along Dublin Road were still frozen over, but did have another loafing flock of 50 Ring-bills. They should start to open up tomorrow, as much of the ice was thin & dark. Landbirds at these spots were not very impressive, with a few Redwings & grackles as the only noticeable migrants.
