The steel truss bridge over Alum Creek just north of Schrock Road (easily
accessible from Alum Creek South Park) is again hosting an Eastern
Screech-owl, a red morph bird. No sign of his or her companion from
previous years.

There's a nice bit of open water just north of the dam at Hoover Reservoir
that is drawing good numbers of waterfowl, including at least a hundred
Hooded Mergansers. Mixed in were two Red-breasted Mergansers, about a dozen
shovelers, a few widgeon, and hundreds of Canada Geese and mallards. Two
Herring Gulls were loafing with the ring-bill mob.

Driving into Blendon Woods, I had to stop in amazement at the turkey flock
Bruce Simpson previously reported. The feeders were quite active with
typical winter residents. The Brown Thrasher was still present at the west
blind feeder at Thoreau Pond, and the open water held a horde of mallards,
black ducks, and Canada Geese. A handful of Redheads were also present,
along with three Ring-necked Ducks, 7 widgeon, and the Green-winged Teal
reported earlier.

Good Birding,
Andy Sewell
Columbus, Ohio
