The first day I could really head out after returning from my vacation.
I don't know how I missed Worm - eating this spring! I did a search
in ebird. May to June - the past five years. For spots. Plenty of
locations! I thought I would have to hit Adams County. Thankfully
no for 1/2 day! Thats a long drive from Oakley. I hit the Bridle Trail area
at east fork. Very birdy! And I am not one for a dawn start.....
The Worm eating was near the start. Number 200 for my SW Ohio
big year.
Kentucky Warblers were active. I saw one with a butterfly! Fun!
Wood Thrush and YB Cuckoos singing. Field Sparrows doing a funky
song. Etc. I was watching the sky for kites! No such luck!
Nature notes - the Common Milkweed there looks at peak. And butterflies
were exploiting it. Banded Hairsteak was nice. Although I need to download
the pics and research that. Not sure what occurs here. The two pond
area was great for dragonflies! I didn't have much time here as a huge storm
closed in. We need the rain.
Good birding all. Hopefully Henslows cooperates on Wed. Another needed
big year species.
