Back in the day, readers of this list occasionally indulged in the
harmless pastime of composing lists of the next ten birds to be added to
the Ohio list. I happened to run across some posts from a 2003
indulgence, in which a lot of top listers participated. Most of them,
like my own, were perfectly plausible. And most were way off the mark. I
did find one entry that must surely be the winner; here it is:
        1. *cave swallow*
        2. ash-throated flycatcher
        3. *sooty tern*
        4. *fish crow*
        5. band-tailed pigeon
        6. *black-bellied whistling-duck*
        7. band-rumped storm-petrel
        8. dovekie
        9. *Cassin's sparrow*
        10. *golden-crowned sparrow*
Even though several of these have yet to be accepted to the Ohio list,
they seem likely to be based on recent reports, and six out of ten
(those in bold) is a phenomenal score.
I have no record as to who sent in this list. I hope he or she will
come forward and claim the acclaim--though band-rumped storm-petrel
still looks like a looooong shot to me...
