In the Cleveland region Jim McCarty has put together a pretty good resource
on Cleveland.com that shows the locations. In general, if the location is
well known and established no one bothers with more than a shorthand
description, but if the location is unique or new a detailed description is
usually included.

A few locations are confusing though. Cleveland Lakefront Nature Preserve
has has 3 prior names and all are sometimes used. Edgewater is a big park
and the sub locations are not always well defined. Boat ramp, Pavilion,
and Perkins Beach overlook, may be confusing but are indeed different
places..

In Geauga Lake and Lorain counties there is a lot of short hand, Heaven
forbid if another rarity shows up at the Mew Gull Marina, in Fairport.

But if you email the poster for specifics they are generally happy to
provide additional details on location. Many people now have smart phones
so you may even get a reply if they are in the field. It is also
legitimate to post to the list asking for directions.

The Lake Erie Birding group on FB is another good resource for those
interested in the areas in the part of the state nearer to the lake. That
group does not confine itself to Lake Erie, but the vicinity which may go
well inland.
