After many muddy trips to Clear Creek MP this year, it was interesting to find the park very dry today. The creek along the Hemlock Trail was barely running.

As expected, birding relatively quiet but Wood Thrushes, E Peewees, Acadian FCs & YB Cuckoos still singing/calling. E Towhees common with a few fledglings seen chasing their patents. Also heard Black-throated Green, Hooded & Com Yellowthroats.

Red-eyed, White-eyed & Yellow-throated Vireos heard.

Saw one Hermit Thrush and one male Scarlet Tanager, brilliant in the morning sun. E Phoebe.

Pileateds calling and saw one with outspread wings against bright sun—lovely.

On the drive back, a Black Vulture flew across the road as I was leaving Lancaster. I don’t think I’ve seen them in the city before, only near the gas transfer station by the Wahkeena Preserve. They’re often seen in Granville.

A short walk yesterday morning at the Land Lab N of Granville was also quiet. A flock of E Meadowlarks was nice. Pair of Red-taileds, one kestrel. Only one Indigo Bunting, no Blue Grosbeaks.

Best sighting there was a mink dashing across the trail right in front of me, the third I’ve seen in Ohio this year which I think is more than I’ve seen previously in total. V cool.
