I was fortunate to see both birds today while up in Ashtabula.

The owl was seen from the Concrete Bridge as previously reported.

I spotted the BTGU in the water near the boat launch at Lake Shore Park.
It was with a group of mixed gulls and it
was only about 100 yds. away. After I had an extended look, the gull
took flight and I was able to see great views of it as it
flew back towards the blue buildings.

A nice, late Christmas present indeed.
