Species in ALL CAPITAL LETTERS ARE REVIEW LIST SPECIES. Details of these sightings are desired by the Ohio Bird Records Committee. Careful observation, not ornithological expertise, is the only qualification for submitting your data. For details and pointers see: http://www.ohiobirds.org/records/documentation.php

American Bittern - One was along the boardwalk at Herrick Fen, Portage Co on 9 June (Renee ?).

Least Bittern - Two were counted on the Ottawa NWR monthly census 7 June (Doug Vogus). It is possible that these and other birds reported from the survey were in off-limits areas of the refuge, however, as the census visits some sections of the park that are not usually open to the public. The next Ottawa NWR census is July 5.

Little Blue Heron - An adult showed up on 7 June’s Ottawa NWR census (Doug Vogus).

Cattle Egret - One was seen 5 June in Columbus, while headed southbound on South 4th Street (Gary Moon).

Eurasian Collared-Dove - Two birds are being seen in Amish country, presently - at the junction of Township Roads 86 & 87 and north of Bunker Hill at Township Rd 207 & County Rd 77 (fide The Bobolink-area RBA).

Olive-sided Flycatcher - The week’s only report of this late migrant came from Oak Openings MP 10 June (Matt Anderson).

Bell’s Vireo - The Columbus-area birds, along Heritage Trail at Homestead Park continue (Jim Fry). Here are Rob Lowry’s explicit directions: “To access this section of the pathway, turn into the main entrance for "The Homestead" park at 4675 Cosgray Road. Follow the entrance road to the furthest parking lot, park, walk towards the small "Bradley Station" train building replica, and enter the trail through a break in the line of shrubs, trees, and bushes by the station. Once on the asphalt pathway, turn right or northwest and follow the path to a white round sign with the following inscription: "P.C.C.", "630", and "ST. L.". The Vireo was heard and seen along the stretch of the path just northwest of this sign.” At Kilby Rd. gravel pits near Cincinnati, a pair continue to hold territory (m. obs).

Sedge Wren - The June 7 Ottawa NWR census tallied two (Doug Vogus).

Lark Sparrow - Gravel pits along East Miami River Rd in Colerain Twp. were home to a copulating pair for Paul Wharton on 6 June. This a mile or so south of Blue Rock Rd.

Blue Grosbeak - A pair were in the usual spot near Girdham and Reed Rds. within the Oak Openings 10 June (Matt Anderson). Also in Oak Openings, on 9 June, a singing male was in the field at the south end of Evergreen Lake (Rick Nirschl). In the Cincinnati-area, the species was reported from gravel pits along East Miami River Rd. in Colerain Twp, and also the Kilby Rd. gravel pits (Paul Wharton), as well as Armleder (W. Travis Young) and Shawnee Lookout (Wayne Wauligman) Parks.

Dicksissel - Not too widespread this summer, it seems, so this species is included. Most of this week’s sightings come from the Cincinnati region - up to 15 have been present at the gravel pits along Kilby Rd (Paul Wharton) and three more at Armleder Park (Barb Schwallie). Also, three birds are being seen along Township Rd 606, east of Township Rd 652 at house number 3920, fide The Bobolink-area RBA.

Red Crossbill - A female was sighted east of Girdham Road and north of the bike trail in Oak Openings, where up to 13 were sighted a few weeks ago (Matt Anderson). At this point, nesting behavior should be closely watched for.
