Ahead of the gusty winds from the west this evening with dark clouds and
rumbling behind them, my wife and I observed between 60-70 Nighthawks flying
over our property in rural Morgan County this evening (70 D2) from west to
east. It took about 2-3 minutes for the birds to float over the ridge -
they were up pretty high but some lingered and flew around in circles a bit
erratically. Seeing these birds over our yard was a very special moment.
It capped a weekend of two long very hot days of manual labor pulling fence
from an old overgrown farm, brush clearing, wood cutting and otherwise
intense "yard" work.
